Railway transportation has a significant impact on regional economic development. In the history of modern China, the completion of the Shanghai-Nanjing and Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo railways, the railroad network demonstrated strong technical and cost advantages and changed the traditional transportation pattern in the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou area. Among them, the development of Shanghai’s industry and commerce and the radiation brought by its transportation had caused the urbanization of the population and the changes of cities along the line, and promoted the formation of the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou Economic Belt.
