Iran’s global connections and ambition is very much reflected by its railroad’s developments. This map shows most operating railways in Iran and the major foreign lines (in orange). Iranian lines with international connection are highlighted in red. Iran’s railway has become a critical transportation hub, and Iran plans to expand this position further. Planned tracks include a direct line to Baku, Azerbaijan, a Kermanshah-Iraq line, and a link to the Chabahar port essential to trade with South Asia.
