The map shows the dams that the Chinese have either financed (Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Tekeze Dam, Gibe Dams) or built directly (Genale Dawa Dams). The names of the dams are in black, and the pushpin indicates their location. Lake T’ana, the water source for the Blue Nile, is also indicated with a pushpin. The rivers are indicated with blue lines. The Blue Nile, which is particularly important because it meanders through several countries and feeds into the Nile itself, is traced outside of Ethiopia as well. Ethiopia was outlined in a darker layer to distinguish it from other countries. The National Geographic Style Base gives texture to the map and shows the mountainous topography. Dams, after all, utilize water falling from higher locations to lower ones. Neighboring countries Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, and South Sudan can all be seen from this map, which is why I chose a zoomed-out view. All of the dams listed have been built in the last 12 years.
